Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) being a reclaimed Borg drone in Star Trek: Voyager couldn't have happened without Dr. Beverly Crusher's (Gates McFadden) work in Star Trek: The Next Generation. The Borg, previously only interested in technology, reveal their interest in assimilating individual people in TNG season 3's cliffhanger, "The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1." Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) is captured and assimilated by the Borg, becoming their speaker, Locutus. While Picard could have been lost forever, Stewart returned to TNG for season 4, so "The Best of Both Worlds, Part 2" includes Picard's de-assimilation.
