Ireland’s current favorite fighter, finally back in the winning column with a huge victory over Carlos Prates, finds himself carrying a lot of momentum. ‘The Future’ of the UFC, Ian Machado Garry secured a huge victory by beating the Brazilian Muay Thai legend at Kansas City. Many thought the pure knockout power of Prates would be too much for Ian Garry, but the Irishman who stepped on to fight on short notice secured a unanimous decision victory.

After a big victory, Garry’s demands for a title shot took a different turn. It seems he believes he is going to face the winner of the Belal Muhammad vs Jack Della Maddalena fight at UFC 315. However, with a huge path forward and a long line of top-tier fighters already in contention, the chances of his title shot are bleak.

Reacting to his ambitions, a fellow welterweight, ranked just five tiles above Garry’s rank #6, stands Sean Brady, who is ranked #1 in the 170-pound division. Brady did not hold back on Garry as he gave him a brutal reality check.

While talking on the SteadyPicks podcast Sean Brady said, “Ian did what Ian does. He f*cking touches you and runs for three rounds, then he got beat up for two rounds, then said he’s getting a title shot. My man was on his hands and knees. I don’t know how Prates didn’t finish him in that last sequence on the ground. He had him, bro. He was done. To say after a performance like that, you deserve a title shot. He can go weigh in and be the backup fighter all he wants. That doesn’t mean f**king d*ck. You just beat No. 13. You don’t deserve anything.”

Harsh, to say the least, but true in a sense, as well. Machado Garry’s title shot demands and speculations seem premature. Sure, he put up a well-fought loss against Shavkat Rakhmonov on short notice but it was still a loss, and losses technically shouldn’t take you closer to the title.

😬Sean Brady went OFF on Ian Garry for calling for a title shot next:

“You just beat number 13. You don’t deserve anything… He can be a back up fighter all he wants, that don’t mean d*ck.”

As Brady said, which many may be inclined to agree with, Garry just beat the #13-ranked fighter of the welterweight division, a division where every ranked fighter is capable of being the best on a good day. In a division like this, Machado Garry has only reached the rank of #6 so far, with a long path to go ahead.

But what about the #1-ranked in the UFC welterweight division Sean Brady? Well, he’s at the top spot for a reason. It would be criminal not to acknowledge his journey to the #1 spot. So, let’s take a closer look at the journey of the BJJ black belt under Daniel Gracie.

From unknown to undeniable, Sean Brady’s path to UFC welterweight title shot

Of course, Sean Brady was going to get mad at Garry for demanding a title shot. Considering his resume, and the effort he has put in, any fighter would be angry if someone with a less impressive record asked for a title shot. The BJJ expert, Brady started his UFC career with a five-fight win streak, losing just once—to the welterweight champion Belal Muhammad, who is on his own generational run. But that loss didn’t stop his momentum.

As a recovery run after his loss to Muhammad, Sean Brady’s next two victories in a row displayed his significantly improved striking alongside his already dangerous Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that helped him submit Kelvin Gastelum and secure a unanimous decision over Gilbert Burns. Yet the biggest victory of his career, one that would really change the title contention dynamics in the welterweight division for him was about to happen.

Last month, Leon Edwards made his return to the Octagon after losing his belt to Muhammad, to face Sean Brady. While many thought a victory for Edwards would bring him back into the title contention, Brady dominated Edwards on the ground and went on to submit him in the fourth round to spoil not just his, but all of Birmingham’s dream. Sean Brady’s shot at the title although confirmed, will opponent his be decided post-UFC 315? Does Brady have what it takes to beat either Muhammad or Maddalena? What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
