Is Scottie Scheffler prioritizing individual goals over national duty? The world No. 1 broke his 2025 losing streak at TPC Craig Ranch by finally winning a PGA Tour title. He won it close to his home and only 10 days away from his visit to Quail Hollow. That led to Scheffler making a shocking decision that surprised many of the fans. He chose to catch a break and stay back in Texas instead of playing in the upcoming 2025 Truist Championship. All of this to spend more time with his family. After all, for Scottie, golf is just his job.
While everyone had made peace with it, the Olympic gold medalist made another surprising decision in the past few hours. Many of the PGA Tour players were around the Philadelphia Cricket Club. Hence, the Team US captain for the 2025 Ryder Cup, Keegan Bradley, hosted a potential team dinner. However, one person who was missing from the feast will be Scottie Scheffler. While Scheffler himself didn’t release any statement explaining why he wouldn’t be attending Bradley’s Ryder Cup dinner, the host did have something to say about it.
The Golf Channel reporter, Todd Lewis, joined in-studio hosts Damon Hack and Eamon Lynch from Philadelphia in a recent coverage. During the segment, Lewis revealed that Scheffler was absent from the list of guests who would attend Bradley’s dinner tonight. The golf analyst confirmed, “I talked to Keegan Bradley about the absence of Scottie Scheffler, and he said, ‘I talked to Scottie about this,’ and he (Bradley) completely understands that he (Scheffler) wants to spend some time with his family prior to traveling to Charlotte to compete in the PGA Championship. So he has an ‘excused absence‘.”
Scottie has always been a family man. He was ready to withdraw from the 2024 Masters if his wife, Meredith, had gone into labor. He now has a son, Bennett, who is often seen on the course with his mom, showing support to his dad. His family and friends keep him grounded.
However, it is still shocking to learn that the best player on Team US is not attending the dinner. Lewis also mentioned, “Keegan is very excited about this evening and kind of bringing unity to this team as they get ready to try to win it at Bethpage.” The goal of the potential team dinner was to bring everyone closer. Scheffler choosing to skip it doesn’t give a positive impression of Team US. Especially when their captain is putting in so much effort in “bringing unity” between them.
While Scottie Scheffler’s absence might not seem that surprising, the individuals who did make the list for the dinner might tell us where the world no. 1’s priorities lie.
The possible 2025 Ryder Cup dinner guest list, excluding Scottie Scheffler
The 2025 Ryder Cup is a few months away, and everyone’s primary goal would be the PGA Championship. But then again, there won’t be any good time for Keegan Bradley for a team dinner. Tod Lewis tweeted about who will make the list for the Ryder Cup team dinner.
He mentioned, “the current top 20 in the @RyderCupUSA standings” are the first to be included in the list. The Golf Channel journalist further added: “Also invited are members of the 2023 U.S. Ryder Cup Team and the 2024 U.S. @PresidentsCup team.” The current best players, the losing team from 2023 in Rome, and the victorious Team USA from the 2024 Presidents Cup will all be a part of the dinner.
Shockingly, the golf expert also mentioned that Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka will also be a part of the list. The LIV Golf duo, who competed in South Korea only a few days ago, are present in Philly for the Ryder Cup dinner. They travelled 6,914 miles to a venue where they won’t be participating in the upcoming PGA Tour Signature event to show support for Keegan Bradley. So it’s surprising that Scottie Scheffler couldn’t fly about 1,483 miles for a quick dinner before going back home to his family.
