It has been an emotional ride for Scottie Scheffler at Bethpage! After the end of the first two days of the 2025 Ryder Cup, he was down 0-4-0. His horrid form surprised everyone as fans expected the world #1 to lead from the front in Team U.S.’s efforts against the Europeans in New York. With one more match to play on Sunday, Scheffler had one last shot at retaliation against Rory McIlroy. And as it turns out, his story wasn’t over just yet.
After the end of the second day, Justin Ray had tweeted, “Under the current format (since 1979) there has never been a player to go 0-5-0 in a Ryder Cup. Scottie Scheffler needs at least a half point today to avoid becoming the first.” Yes, Scheffler was about to record the worst possible history in the Ryder Cup of losing 5 matches. That was until he didn’t have to rely on anyone else but his own skills to finish the game. And so he did, getting a 1UP win against the world #2 in formidable fashion.

A teary-eyed Scheffler, still on the course after his win against McIlroy, spoke to a reporter about his win. He expressed how inspirational Keegan Bradley has been in pushing the side to perform their best on Sunday. He shared how happy he was to finally be able to contribute a point to try and help Team U.S. win. The American side wasn’t trailing by 7 strokes anymore. With 4 matches to go, they were just 3 points behind their rivals and 4 away from stealing the title. And it couldn’t have happened without the individual brilliance of each of the players.
