Mckenna Grace reacted to her casting as Daphne in Netflix’s live-action Scooby-Doo series during an Oscars red carpet interview. The Hollywood Reporter noted that the actor screamed when she was asked how she feels about taking on the role of Daphne. She said, “I’m so excited! I am so excited,” while discussing the role.

Netflix confirmed Grace will lead the eight-episode series as a young Daphne Blake, with the story focusing on how Mystery Inc. first met. Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg write and serve as showrunners while also executive producing alongside André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman executive produce through Berlanti Productions.

Speaking further about her preparation, Grace said, “I love Daphne. I dressed up as her for two or three Halloweens. I’m obsessed with Daphne. She is my favourite character.” She added, “I’m so beyond. I’m estatic. I’m just going to rewatch every Scooby-Doo movie and series ever now.”

She has played the character before, previously voicing Daphne in 2020’s Scoob!. She was also set to reprise the role in Scoob! Holiday Haunt, but Warner Bros. Discovery scrapped the project as a tax write-off. Grace has frequently dressed as Daphne for Halloween.

The official logline states, “During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder.”

It continues, “Together with Velma and Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
