Scarlett Johansson recently appeared in a magazine interview, where she discussed a plethora of topics, including the infamous roast beef joke made by her husband, Colin Jost, which was written by Michael Che during an episode of Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update that aired last year. Johansson has frequently been the target of crude and inappropriate jokes from both Jost and Che. These jokes typically poked fun at various discussions concerning the 40-year-old actress, such as her appearance.

Scarlett Johansson recently did a cover story for Vanity Fair, where she discussed the infamous roast beef joke made by Michael Che and said by Colin Jost on SNL late last year. The actress, who witnessed Jost saying the joke from backstage, expressed her desire to hit back at Che for coming up with it.

“I feel like it’s almost my responsibility to come up with some way to burn Michael back,” Johansson said. “Retaliation, I’d say, should be expected.” The Marriage Story actress also shared her experience facing various cameras backstage, capturing her reaction to the joke. She noted how she “didn’t expect the setup to be like that.” Johansson also mocked Jost and Che for making the joke, calling them “seventh-, eighth-grade boys.”

The Black Widow star had previously shared her thoughts on the SNL joke in an InStyle interview earlier this year, saying it was “old-school gross.” However, Johansson admitted it was a humorous experience. She also revealed knowing in advance that Che would be writing a v****a joke, courtesy of the producers. The actress initially thought the joke wouldn’t be aimed at her, only to be surprised after seeing the Costco photo.

The joke also did not create any issues between Johansson and Jost, who had laughed about it together. Johansson is set to co-host the SNL Season 50 finale alongside Walton Goggins. The episodes featuring the two stars will be released on May 10 and 17, 2025.
