Saturn in Aries for the first time since 1999 will impact these five star signs most

Hold onto your celestial hats, for on Sunday May 25, and for an initial three months, the mighty Saturn, one of astrology’s most potent outer planets, moves back into fiery Aries for the first time since 1999.

This will be particularly powerful for Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn people, but also for Aquarians.

All of these these zodiac signs aside from Aquarius are Cardinal Signs, the leaders of the zodiac. And Aquarius is included because, like Capricorn, it was traditionally ruled by Saturn, although it now has a modern co-pilot, Uranus.

Saturn is all about time itself: patience, discipline, structures, boundaries, authority and wisdom. But it is also said to inhibit, slow things down, and seemingly create obstacles.

It helps us to define our weaknesses and our limits, then to develop the resilience to work on these and create solid progress grounded in realism. So application, along with perspiration, is essential to harness Saturn’s qualities.

The Romans named Saturn, but in Greek mythology, it was known as Cronos (as in ‘chronology’), and so is also referred to as Old Father Time. Saturn is the last of the seven planets visible with the naked eye, and therefore was thought to represent the limit of our consciousness.

Its entire journey through the heavens takes 29.5 Earth years – beginning with the first sign of Aries and ending with the last zodiac sign of Pisces. It will return to Pisces for its final visit in this planetary cycle fromSeptember 1 due to its annual five month Retrograde beginning in mid-July, and return to Aries on February 14 next year, continuing through to the spring of 2028.

So, from now through to mid-February 2026 is a unique phase of endings and new beginnings, with Saturn hovering at the last degrees of Pisces and the first couple of degrees of Aries. This is because Saturn is also about consequences and outcomes, so essentially, we are now reaping what we began when Saturn last started its journey in Aries in 1996.

So why is the sign Saturn occupies considered such a big deal? Well, Saturn in Aries is said to be in its Fall. This can be a challenging position for any planet, and while Aries people like to attack projects based on their instincts – with drive, youthful enthusiasm and excitement – Saturn can seem to block this and create lower vitality. It’s almost like having a great idea, only for an experienced friend or family member to point out all the potential pitfalls.

Whereas Jupiter is known as the Greater Benefic – the planet of fortune and growth – conversely, Saturn was known as the Greater Malefic – the planet of limitations and harsh lessons. Indeed, over the last year, the two have also been in conflict, creating barriers to progress. That is going to be an issue once more in mid-June, when they clash in their respective new homes, with Jupiter in residence in Cancer from June 9, 2025.

By this time next year however, we will all have started to adapt to this significant change.
