When a show doubles its episode count following a well-earned renewal, our first instinct is pretty simple: hand them all over, immediately. But with network TV’s appointment viewing officially getting its own time to shine,Saturday Night Live UK is proving it’s better off making us wait for more. After Lorne Michaels’ Saturday Night Livefranchise finally expanded this past spring overseas, SNL UK is returning with 12 episodes for Season 2. That alone is an admirable show of faith in a franchise spin-off that could have felt like an awkward copy-and-paste. But between its brilliant cast finding its own rhythm and sharp writing that gives it its edge, Sky has now given it room to grow without squeezing everything into one long, extensive sophomore run.
