Saskatoon is set to host one of the biggest curling events in recent years.
The SaskTel Centre is set to host the 100th anniversary edition of the Montana’s Brier in 2027, Curling Canada announced Monday.
“Hosting the 100th anniversary of the Brier is an exciting opportunity for our province,” Saskatchewan tourism minister Alana Ross said in a press release. “Curling is Saskatchewan’s official sport, and our province has a proud legacy of producing champions.
“This milestone event will showcase Saskatchewan’s unique hospitality through vibrant visitor experiences that strengthen our economy.”
This will be the seventh time Saskatoon has hosted the tournament, ranking it third among host cities after Toronto (14) and Calgary (eight). It last hosted the Brier in 2012, with Ontario’s team, skipped by Glenn Howard, lifting the trophy.
The centennial edition of the tournament is set to feature special events and displays, with Curling Canada CEO Nolan Thiessen calling it a “celebration of our past, present and future.”
The Brier, regarded as the Canadian men’s curling championship, pits 16 of the best Canadian teams head to head. Every province and territory sends a representative team, with Ontario receiving two. Additionally, the winner of the previous Brier automatically qualifies by representing Team Canada, and the highest-ranked non-qualified team will also earn a spot.
