Sarah Michelle Gellar has shared a heartfelt tribute to her former Buffy the Vampire Slayer castmate Michelle Trachtenberg following her untimely passing at age 39.

Taking to Instagram on Feb. 27, Gellar posted several photographs capturing their shared moments from Buffy and their enduring friendship over the years.

“Michelle, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you. The hardest thing in this world is to live in it. I will be brave. I will live… for you,” she expressed, adapting a cherished “Buffy” quote.

Trachtenberg made her mark on Buffy portraying Dawn Summers, the younger sister to Gellar’s character Buffy Summers, from 2000 through 2003.

Law enforcement confirmed to TMZ that Trachtenberg was discovered unresponsive Wednesday (Feb. 26, 2025) by her mother in her Manhattan apartment near Columbus Circle shortly after 8 a.m. local time.

According to these sources, the actress had recently undergone a liver transplant procedure and potentially experienced complications. Officials believe natural causes led to her death, with no suspicion of foul play.

In the aftermath of her death, numerous former co-stars and admirers of her work have come forward to share their remembrances.
