“How lucky are we…” Kristie Mewis wrote in an Instagram post, sharing a couple of pictures with her fiancée, Sam Kerr. Love has only grown stronger between the soccer couple since they got together in 2020, with Mewis even stepping into the role of a mom to their child today. Yet, alongside the sweet moments also come the unexpected ones—like anger, playful teasing, or banter—that sometimes go a little too far. And in this case, Mewis’ words struck during a period when Kerr was going through one of the toughest spells of her career.
This entire incident was shared on the latest episode of The Women’s Game podcast, hosted by, yep, none other than Sam Mewis, the sister of Kristie. “I want to bring this up in your podcast because all the USA fans get at me because I’m harsh about this corner thing. Your sister is the harshest person ever in the world to me. She doesn’t do it in public. I was struggling at Chelsea; I was down in the dumpster. Everyone was like, ‘This girl’s overrated, this girl’s a waste of money…'”
“All of this stuff, and when I first started talking to your sister, and I had a terrible game; we won, but I literally had seven one-on-ones and missed. I come back to my phone, and your sister had sent me a text. ‘You meant to kick it in the net.’ And I’m like, [surprised reaction] ‘I don’t know if I like this girl anymore’. And I was getting absolutely demolished by everyone, and she says you’re meant to kick it in the net.”
"I wanted to bring this up on your podcast."
