Adolescence star Owen Cooper has unveiled his latest project – as the star of Sam Fender’s new music video.

Last week, the Geordie singer-songwriter unveiled the video for his latest single Little Bit Closer, which featured the teenage Netflix star in a prominent role.

But that’s not the only Adolescence connection with Sam’s video – as it was also helmed by Philip Barantini, who directed all four episodes of the hard-hitting drama.

Sam wrote on Instagram: “I had no doubt [Philip Barantini] was the right director for this one, it was so great to work with him again. His video for Spit of You will always be my favourite.

“He asked [Owen] if he’d like to be in the video and I was elated when he said yes — his performance in Adolescence was incredible. Big love to the entire cast and team, they’ve created something beautiful.”

Remarkably, Adolescence marked Owen’s first time on camera, with the show becoming the most talked-about show of the year when it premiered on Netflix in March.

Owen is already at work on his next role, appearing as the younger version of Jacob Elordi’s character in Saltburn director Emerald Fennell’s new adaptation of Wuthering Heights.

Speaking to Variety around the release of Adolescence, the 15-year-old revealed he still had “another couple of weeks left” of shooting on the much-hyped new film, while also revealing how his on-screen dad Stephen Graham led to him landing the part, after setting the teen up with his own agent.

On Sunday night, Owen and his Adolescence co-star Erin Doherty also made an appearance at the TV Baftas, where they presented fellow Netflix star Jessica Gunning with the award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Baby Reindeer.
