Sabrina Carpenter recently pushed back against criticism of the sexually explicit content in her music and performances. As she prepares to release her seventh studio album, the pop star addressed backlash in a new Rolling Stone interview. Here’s what she had to say about the criticism.

What did Sabrina Carpenter say about people who criticize her songs?

Sabrina Carpenter has responded to the backlash that she has received over her sexually charged lyrics and provocative stage performances. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the pop star directly addressed the controversy ahead of the release of her seventh studio album, Man’s Best Friend.

Speaking candidly, Carpenter called out what she perceived to be a double standard in the criticism she receives, arguing that the same people who accuse her of focusing too heavily on sexual themes are also the ones who make those very songs popular. She observed, “It’s always so funny to me when people complain. They’re like, ‘All she does is sing about this.’ But those are the songs that you’ve made popular.” The singer also added, “Clearly you love sex. You’re obsessed with it.”

Carpenter also pushed back against the judgment she’s received for her performances on the Short n’ Sweet Tour, particularly the “Juno” position, which has drawn attention online. However, she emphasized that these moments don’t define the entire show. The “Espresso” singer said, “There’s so many more moments [other] than the ‘Juno’ positions, but those are the ones you post every night and comment on. I can’t control that.”

In the same interview, Carpenter also touched upon her relationship following her alleged breakup with actor Barry Keoghan. Though she didn’t share anything about her dating life, the pop star said, “Am I doing the single thing right now? I’m doing the 25-year-old thing right now, whatever that means.”
