Ryan Reynolds graced the stage of the 2025 Academy Awards in his Deadpool costume, and viewers did not ever suspect that it was the actor who was busting the moves. In his Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend podcast, Conan O’Brien sat down for a chat with the Primetime Emmy-winning actor and talked about his surprising Oscars performance.

The podcast host revealed, “I love that nobody knows that when I hosted the Oscars, that really was you as Deadpool.” In response, Reynolds quipped, “Well, yeah, most would assume arthritis at this stage.” He added, “Nope, they have pills for that too.”

Meanwhile, Reynolds and his wife, Blake Lively, have been missing from a few award shows. Fans speculated that the couple wanted to stay low-key amid the lawsuit drama between Lively and her co-star Justin Baldoni.

The pair skipped the 31st Screen Actors Guild Awards in February as well as the 82nd Golden Globes in January despite Reynolds receiving nominations for Deadpool & Wolverine. However, Deadline had reported that the decision for the couple’s absence was made much before the lawsuit conflict unfolded.

Additionally, O’Brien also discussed Reynolds’ inspiring career trajectory that started from TV shows. Before making it to Hollywood, the Canadian actor got his first break with the teen soap opera Hillside in 1991.

O’Brian inquired if Reynolds knew how his journey in the entertainment industry would pan out. The host asked, “I have a question, which is, did you have an idea of what you wanted your trajectory to be? Would you have been happy if TV had been a hit and that had worked out? Or did you always know pretty much where you wanted to end up?”

Reynolds went on a diplomatic path to answer the question as he insisted, “Well, it’s so different now. It’s like now people who are in film are hoping to gain enough respect to get a TV show.”
