IMAX, the large-size film format invented in Canada in the 1970s, is having a cultural moment right now. Christopher Nolan became the first film-maker to shoot a major feature film entirely in IMAX with The Odyssey, and despite the hassle of lugging the cumbersome IMAX cameras all over the Mediterranean, the gamble paid off in spades. The movie is one of the biggest hits of the year, and the mad scramble for IMAX tickets, especially in the select locations equipped with 70mm film projectors, only heightened the anticipation for the film. Now, one of next year's most anticipated films is set to come to an IMAX theater near you.
