Russia and Ukraine have initiated air assaults that damaged each other’s infrastructure, just hours after Vladimir Putin announced that Russia would cease targeting Ukrainian energy facilities.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia’s assaults have targeted hospitals and power supplies. He indicated that the Russian leader effectively dismissed any potential for a comprehensive ceasefire during his conversation with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

Putin informed Trump that a complete ceasefire would only be feasible if Ukraine’s allies halted military support—a condition that Ukraine’s European partners have previously rejected.

Officials in the Krasnodar region of southern Russia reported that a Ukrainian drone strike led to a minor fire at an oil depot.

Shortly after Putin agreed to cease attacks on energy infrastructure, Zelensky remarked, “there have been hits on civilian infrastructure,” including a hospital in Sumy.

Zelensky noted that Russia launched over 40 drones against Ukraine shortly after the Trump-Putin conversation.

“These nighttime offensives by Russia are damaging our energy sector, our infrastructure, and disrupting the daily lives of Ukrainians,” Zelensky stated.

“Today, Putin effectively turned down the proposal for a full ceasefire.”

Additionally, the Russian defense ministry reported that of the 57 Ukrainian drones intercepted and destroyed overnight, 35 were over the Kursk border region.

In Belgorod, a Russian region bordering Ukraine, the governor mentioned that the situation “remains challenging.” On Tuesday, Moscow stated that Ukrainian forces attempted a ground attack on Belgorod but were repelled.

Putin dismissed the idea of an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in Ukraine, agreeing only to stop assaults on energy infrastructure after a highly anticipated call with Trump.

The Russian leader declined to commit to the extensive month-long ceasefire that Trump’s team had recently negotiated with Ukrainians in Saudi Arabia.

US discussions regarding Ukraine are set to resume on Sunday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, according to US envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.

Zelensky noted last September that approximately 80% of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure had been obliterated by Russian bombings.

In response, Kyiv has carried out drone and missile strikes deep into Russian territory, targeting oil and gas facilities.
