From Mississippi to the biggest stage of all! DK Metcalf has seen a lot. Everyone saw his potential once the Seattle Seahawks took a chance on him in 2019. At the time, this was a huge deal for the young WR, which he took advantage of. Fast forward to 2025, and the Seahawks opted to release the WR after six great years. And obviously, this has made him quite emotional. After all, this was the team that gave him his big break. Interestingly, in this emotional moment, Metcalf has his potential new QB’s shoulder to rest his head on.

Yep! That’s right. If you looked through Metcalf’s Instagram, you would have come upon his most recent post. This is a lengthy post in which the WR expressed his gratitude to his team, staff, and the 12s. DK discussed his experience throughout the years and how he went from being a kid in the league to one of the finest. Well, former Steelers‘ QB Russell Wilson reacted to Metcalf’s departure from the Seahawks with a great comment.

Wilson praised DK as the king and penned, “Love you King! Family. Forever.” These comments from Wilson sparked rumors that he might not remain in the same team as Metcalf. Well, you might have heard that the Browns are entertaining the thought of signing Wilson. And while they could not get DK Metcalf—thanks to the Steelers—, maybe they will go all in for Wilson. Reports even claim that Wilson is scheduled to visit the Browns as he explores his options in free agency. Things are surely getting spicy!

NFL players moving around is common in the league. There are releases and trades all the time, but do you know what really hurts a player? It hurts when they devote a significant portion of their lives to a team, only to be released at the end. Talk about Tom Brady? I mean, even TB12 left the Patriots after two decades with the team. Aaron Rodgers? Same story! He described leaving the Green Bay Packers after 18 years as “bittersweet.” And many more players become emotional when they leave their first NFL franchise.

DK Metcalf’s sentiments are understandable. Everyone knows that Seattle was his first home in the league, and leaving the franchise that drafted him is never easy. Apart from that, right now all fans can talk about is Russell Wilson’s comments on his post. After all, the Browns could be planning to take revenge on the Steelers.

Why were the Browns unable to sign DK Metcalf?

Every rumor and speculation indicated that Cleveland wanted DK Metcalf. And then the Steelers swooped in and grabbed the WR like it was no big deal. The Browns and Steelers are fierce rivals, as we all know. And perhaps that was one of the reasons why Pittsburgh chose to enter the picture. After all, the Steelers were looking for a solid WR, and maybe when they realized that Cleveland could get Metcalf, they saw an opportunity. Not only do they have a superb WR, but they also don’t want their bitter rivals to get an advantage. And maybe who knows, as a revenge, the Browns could get Russell Wilson on their side.

But why did the Browns let Metcalf go so easily? Let’s look at a few reasons why this could have happened:

Cap Space Limitations: To sign a major player, a team must always have plenty of cap room. Obviously, there could have been an issue with the Browns’ cap space. After all, they have prominent players like Myles Garrett and Deshaun Watson.
Trade Package Competitiveness: DK Metcalf’s move was a hot topic throughout the league. And Seattle has significant trade options. The Steelers may have been the best option, offering the Seahawks a second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and an exchange for later-round picks.
Player Preference: Obviously, the Player’s preference is also important in this scenario, right? And DK Metcalf would have surely chosen the team that offered him a higher contract. Perhaps the Browns were unable to match the Steelers’ offer.

Maybe these were the reasons the Browns missed out on a terrific wide receiver for the next season. DK Metcalf is likely to be the Steelers’ WR1 next season after the team awarded him a hefty five-year $150 million agreement.
