Directed by Ron Howardand starring Russell Croweas down-on-his-luck boxer Jim Braddock, the frequently overlooked sports biopic occupies an odd place in its lead's filmography. Less well-known than Crowe's career-defining roles in films like Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind, Crowe nevertheless delivers one of his most underrated performances as the future heavyweight contender, which is why it’s even more impressive that Crowe wasn’t the actor to come out of the film with the most recognition.
