Russell Crowe & Shailene Woodley’s New Divisive Crime Movie Now Streaming on Netflix

Netflix has released a new crime drama based on a notorious real-life case. The film follows the origins of the Unabomber and the investigation that eventually uncovered his identity. It also explores the psychological experiences that shaped Ted Kaczynski during his early years.

Unabomber is now streaming on Netflix as of September 25, 2026. Janus Metz directed the film, which stars Russell Crowe, Shailene Woodley, Jacob Tremblay, and Annabelle Wallis. The film draws inspiration from the true story of Ted Kaczynski and his nearly two-decade bombing campaign. It currently has a 33% Tomatometer score from 15 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

The story and cast behind the new Netflix crime movie

Unabomber follows Kaczynski from his time as a 16-year-old Harvard prodigy to his later identity as the Unabomber. The story moves between two timelines. One focuses on Kaczynski’s early years at Harvard, while the other follows the FBI’s efforts to find him decades later.

Tremblay plays the young Kaczynski, while Crowe portrays Harvard psychology professor Henry Murray. Kaczynski becomes the subject of Murray’s controversial psychological experiments. Meanwhile, Woodley plays FBI agent Joanne Miller, who leads the search for him.

Wallis stars as Christiana Morgan, Murray’s academic partner and co-director of the Harvard Psychological Clinic. The cast also includes Alexander Ludwig, Steven Ogg, and Marc Menchaca.

Metz directed the film from a screenplay by Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves. Sophie Cassidy serves as producer for 2.0 Entertainment, with MRC involved in the production. Donald J. Lee, Chalsen, and Greaves are executive producers.

The real-life Kaczynski carried out a mail-bombing campaign that lasted from 1978 to 1995. His attacks killed three people and injured 23 others. Netflix’s film focuses on both his development before the crimes and the FBI operation that eventually brought the manhunt to an end.

Unabomber carries an R rating and has a runtime of 1 hour and 40 minutes.
