One of television’s most unusual spy dramas is returning on Apple TV+ for another mission as it begins its sixth season. The new episodes bring back the dysfunctional Slough House team for another dangerous assignment.
Slow Horses returns today, September 15, on Apple TV. Gary Oldman comes back as Jackson Lamb, the foul-mouthed and unconventional head of Slough House, alongside Jack Lowden as field agent River Cartwright.
The Slow Horses season 6 arrives as Lowden continues to attract attention as a potential future James Bond. Oldman has publicly praised his co-star as someone who could take over the iconic 007 role.
Based on Mick Herron’s novels Joe Country and Slough House, Season 6 follows the disgraced MI5 agents as they get caught in a dangerous internal conflict. Diana Taverner, played by Kristin Scott Thomas, becomes involved in the escalating situation that leaves the Slough House team facing threats from within their own organization.
The new season also brings back Olivia Cooke as Sidonie “Sid” Baker. Saskia Reeves, Christopher Chung, Rosalind Eleazar, and Jonathan Pryce are also among the returning cast. Apple TV+ has renewed the series through Season 8, extending its run well beyond the upcoming sixth installment.
Why Slow Horses remains one of TV’s most unconventional spy thrillers
Slow Horses takes a different approach to the traditional spy thriller. Instead of focusing on glamorous agents, expensive gadgets, and elaborate action sequences, the series follows MI5 officers who have been pushed aside after making career-ending mistakes.
The agents are assigned to Slough House, where they spend their days handling tedious administrative work under Lamb. However, their assignments regularly pull them into dangerous investigations that involve national security.
The series blends dark British humor with serious espionage storylines. Its characters are often flawed, argumentative, and prone to mistakes, which makes their missions less predictable than those of conventional secret agents.
Season 6 continues that formula while expanding the show’s larger story, giving viewers another chapter in which Lamb and his team navigate the dangerous world of British intelligence.
