Royal Mail has stunned social media users after it shared a brutal barb aimed at Keir Starmer over his resignation.

The prime minister announced he was quitting as Labour leader and set out a timetable for his departure from No.10 on Monday morning.

Starmer was effectively forced out by his own MPs, who lost faith in him after the party’s embarassing defeat at the May elections.

The final straw came when his greatest rival, Andy Burnham, won the Makerfield by-election on Thursday.

He is now widely expected to succeed Starmer in No.10 with little opposition from the parliamentary Labour Party.

Royal Mail jumped on the leading news story on Monday afternoon by posting a photo of 10 Downing Street with the caption: “Moving home? Remember to redirect your mail.”

Additional text within the image explained the service is “for life’s unexpected moves” and includes a redirection form with the prime ministerial home address put in it.

The post got more than three million views in less than 24 hours on X.

But members of the Labour Party, including sitting MPs, were quick to accuse Royal Mail of being “insensitive”.

Really @RoyalMail? Unnecessarily poor form. https://t.co/B2uwWmVvFI

This is appallingly insensitive. https://t.co/2pN2YXDPDF

Others were shocked to see the company – which the UK government does still have a major share in – go after Starmer.

Oh my god! https://t.co/XjmnmQPQyG

Social media brain rot has got the Royal Mail thinking it needs to deliver the sauce. Chill. Deliver some letters. You’re not a west coast start up. https://t.co/Km6kjuF9vr

Royal Mail turned off the replies to this shady tweet. https://t.co/wV4nWXUCQc
