Few film critics have achieved the level of fame that Roger Ebert has. Years after his death, his assessment of films stands as the definitive word on their merits. If he liked a movie, you knew it was a classic. If he didn't like a certain title, well, he made sure you knew it, offering scathing, often witty reviews that gave more than fair warning to those headed to the cinema. But it doesn’t mean his criticisms of a film are flawless. There are many movies he praised that, especially over time, suggest Ebert wasn't watching the same film as almost everyone else in the world (3 out of 4 stars for Home Alone 3... let that sink in). Likewise, there are films Ebert quickly dismissed that have a charm about them that supersedes the logic that they’re unwatchable. One such film is Q: The Winged Serpent, a film Ebert may not have loved, but for those who enjoy a wacky, B-grade horror flick, it gets two thumbs up. Spoilers for this delightfully schlocky monster movie ahead.
