Robert Pattinson’s Verdict on The Batman 2 Script Is in

Filmmaker Matt Reeves recently spoke about what Robert Pattinson‘s reaction was to the script of The Batman 2. In June 2025, Reeves took to social media to announce that he and screenwriter Mattson Tomlin have finished writing the script for the highly anticipated sequel to 2022’s The Batman. Notably, The Batman and associated projects are part of the Batman Epic Crime Saga franchise and the DC Elseworlds content label.

Reeves made an appearance on the red carpet for the Emmys 2025 and revealed to Variety what his Batman / Bruce Wayne actor thought of The Batman 2 script. “I’m really proud of the script me and Mattson did, and we’ve started to share it with Robert [Pattinson],” Reeves disclosed. “Rob was super excited. I feel really excited about the idea that it’s gonna be, that we feel like we can reach farther and do even more than we did in the first one. And, I’m really excited to get back together with everybody that we made the movie with, and it’s gonna be fun,” he further stated.

When asked how they delivered the screenplay to Pattinson, Reeves divulged that they placed the script inside a “secret” pouch that had “a lock on it with a code.” He continued, “[Pattinson] was in New York at the time, and everything is high security.”

Reeves was then asked if Pattinson sent the script back inside the pouch after reading it. He clarified that Pattinson didn’t send it back, adding, “We really trust Rob, because he’s the best.”

In the same interview, Reeves also confirmed that filming for The Batman 2 would commence in spring next year, “probably around the end of April or beginning of May.”

Besides Pattinson, the confirmed casting for The Batman 2 includes Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as Oswald “Oz” Cobb / the Penguin.

The Batman 2 comes out in U.S. theaters on October 1, 2027.
