A holiday hotspot in Spain saw roads transformed into icy rivers after the region was hit by hailstorms and torrential rain.

Video footage from this week shows cars in Santa Pola, on the Costa Blanca stuck in several feet of water and surrounded by massive sheets of broken ice floating on top.

In one clip, shared by The Sun, a car drives through water that almost reaches the top of its tyres.

In another, the water has drained away, but massive chunks of ice remain on the road and pavement.

Elsewhere on the Costa Blanca, in the town of Orihuela, a mini-tornado brought down trees and ripped tiles off roofs.

Several parts of Spain have been struck by extreme weather over the past few of days, as Storm Konrad made its way through the country.

Spain’s weather agency Aemet issued both yellow and amber weather warnings, forecasting strong winds, heavy rain, snow and ‘very low temperatures for this time of year’.
