Riz Ahmed says he ‘was hospitalized for a brief period’ during Rogue One’s production
During a conversation on the Podcrushed podcast, Riz Ahmed opened up about the scary health situation he experienced amid filming Rogue One. He said, “Basically, I was in the middle of filming [Rogue One: A Star Wars Story], and my body kind of gave up on me. I was extremely exhausted. I was hospitalized for a brief period.”
The actor further continued, “I really tried to regain my strength. I was building myself up from scratch. It was super scary and intense and quite prolonged, actually. For a minute I was like, ‘Am I ever going to get my life back?'”
Ahmed didn’t reveal exact details on what the health scare was and how it affected the film’s production. However, he did note that he wasn’t able to clearly understand what was happening to him. The Sound of Metal star described the health scare as “something very silent and very intense [that] happened to me.” Additionally, he revealed that his situation wasn’t recovering quickly either.
Although the scary experience sparked “fear and terror” in his mind, he also deeply felt a sense of “liberation” and “acceptance.” Viewing the situation positively, he said, “I always think that when you’re brought to your knees, you’re halfway towards praying.”
He further explained that during such moments, one has little control over the mind and body. “Then, in moments of kind of trippy clarity and in the darkness, I realized, then everything you have is a gift.”
