The transaction, labeled as a payment to “Xaman Service Fee,” did not go through due to insufficient funds, but its unusually large amount led to confusion and speculation.

The XRPL marked the transaction as “UNFUNDED_PAYMENT”, indicating the sender’s account lacked sufficient balance—excluding reserve requirements—to complete the transfer. Despite the transaction failing, the community questioned why such a large fee was being attempted in the first place.

Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer David Schwartz, who also helped design the XRP Ledger, stepped in to clarify the situation. He explained that the issue was a rare edge case and not the result of malicious activity or an intentional charge. According to Schwartz, the XRPL wasn’t properly set up to handle this specific scenario, leading to the misflagged attempt.

Fortunately, no funds were lost, and the Ripple team has already deployed a fix to prevent similar incidents. The clarification helped calm speculation and put to rest fears of a broader issue with XRP wallet operations.
