Ridley Scott is finally set to return to the world of sci-fi later this year with his new movie, The Dog Stars, which is now launching in theaters on August 28 after being delayed from its original March release date. Scott has been focused more on historical epics in the last few years — his last directorial feature came back at the end of 2024 when he returned to the colosseum for Gladiator II, the legacy sequel starring Denzel Washington. Russell Crowe was famously left out of Gladiator II, and he has not been shy about sharing his criticisms of the movie. The year before Gladiator II, Scott reunited with Gladiatorstar Joaquin Phoenix for Napoleon, the historical epic that’s now streaming on Apple TV after bombing at the box office due to its bloated budget.
