The king of sci-fi, Ridley Scott, returned to the genre earlier this year with The Dog Stars, his new dystopian epic starring Jacob Elordi and Josh Brolin. Scott has been absent from directing sci-fi for almost 10 years while focusing on big-budget historical epics like Napoleonand Gladiator II, but he’s maintained a steady presence behind the scenes as a producer. Most notably, Scott returned to his signature franchise to produce FX’s hit series Alien: Earth, written and developed by Fargo scribe Noah Hawley. But in an era where peak-TV budgets are shrinking, and high-profile series are routinely axed without warning, fans have learned that even Ridley Scott's name on a marquee doesn't make a show invincible.
