Director Ridley Scott's long-awaited return to the sci-fi genre with The Dog Stars didn't exactly go according to plan. The movie underperformed in its box-office debut and received mediocre reviews. It had been nearly a decade since Scott made a sci-fi movie; his previous release was Alien: Covenant, which fell short of box-office expectations as well and sent its iconic franchise into hibernation for several years. The Alien series was resurrected by Fede Álvarez's Alien: Romulus, which grossed $350 million worldwide and received an 80% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. Scott wasn't quite impressed, however. In a recent interview with AlloCiné, he described the movie as "okay" and expressed his intention to return to the series.
