A Republican lawmaker in Minnesota, who recently proposed a bill to establish a mental illness designation for liberals overly fixated on Donald Trump, was taken into custody on Tuesday for allegedly attempting to solicit a minor for prostitution.

Senator Justin Eichorn was arrested and processed on Tuesday after he mistakenly thought he was messaging a 17-year-old girl, but was actually communicating with detectives from the Bloomington police department, according to police reports.

Eichorn, a 40-year-old legislator described on the Minnesota Senate website as married with four children, now faces felony charges for soliciting a minor for prostitution.

“As a 40-year-old man, if you come to the Orange Jumpsuit District looking to engage in sexual activities with a minor, you can expect to be incarcerated,” stated Booker Hodges from the Bloomington police department.

The Minnesota Senate GOP has urged Eichorn to resign, denouncing the allegations as shocking. “Justin has a challenging path ahead, and he must prioritize his family,” the caucus remarked in a statement. The Minnesota Republican Party echoed this sentiment, calling for Eichorn’s resignation due to the “serious nature” of the charges.

Eichorn is one of five sponsors of a bill introduced this week that seeks to classify “Trump derangement syndrome” as a mental health condition. This term is often used by Trump supporters to suggest that liberals have become so obsessed with Trump that they display signs of mental illness.

The bill characterizes the syndrome as “the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal individuals in response to the policies and presidency of President Donald J Trump. Symptoms may include Trump-induced general hysteria, leading to an inability to differentiate between legitimate policy disagreements and psychological disturbances related to President Donald J. Trump’s behavior.” Manifestations of the syndrome could encompass “intense hostility” directed at Trump or “overt acts of aggression and violence toward anyone supporting President Donald J Trump or symbols associated with him.”

The bill has attracted national attention and criticism from the left. State Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy referred to it as “perhaps the worst bill in Minnesota history,” asserting that if it’s intended as a joke, it wastes valuable time and trivializes genuine mental health issues. Conversely, if it’s serious, it constitutes “an affront to free speech and reflects a concerning allegiance to an authoritarian president.”
