Kevin Durant could have a new team imminently.
The Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat and Houston Rockets have emerged as the top contenders in a trade for the Phoenix Suns forward, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Friday.
“They’ve had about six to eight teams reach out. There’s been interest. There’s been some offers. There’s been some negotiation,” Charania said on The Pat McAfee Show.
“But really in the last 24 to 48 hours, I’m told, the focus of the Suns’ conversations has been on a few of the teams: the Houston Rockets, the Miami Heat, and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Those are the three teams right now where a lot of the focus lies.”
Charania reported earlier this week that Durant was exploring trade offers alongside business partner Rich Kleiman, and that he and the team would work together on a deal.
Other teams have also made inquiries on the 15-time all-star, who was in trade discussions around February’s deadline when he reportedly rejected a move back to the Golden State Warriors.
Talks now are expected to escalate in advance of the June 25 NBA Draft.
Durant, 37, averaged 26.6 points, six rebounds and 4.2 assists in 62 games last season, but the Suns finished 36-46 and missed the post-season.
