The Los Angeles Dodgers will hope that Roki Sasaki‘s second big-league tenure goes better than the first.

Sasaki has rejoined the Dodgers and is set to be activated from the 60-day injured list on Wednesday, when he will pitch out of the bullpen, according to USA Today‘s Bob Nightengale.

The Japanese phenom, who was signed by Los Angeles in the off-season after a furious recruiting process, has been on the IL since early May after beginning the season in the Dodgers’ rotation. In those eight starts, Sasaki posted a 4.72 ERA over 34.1 innings and slowly saw his velocity fade with each outing.

Saskai began a rehab assignment in mid-August at triple-A Oklahoma City and pitched to a 6.10 ERA over 20.2 innings. Despite struggling to prevent runs, Sasaki’s fastball velocity climbed through each rehab outing and averaged 98.1 m.p.h. on Sept. 18.

Los Angeles’s bullpen has struggled in the lead-up to the post-season, carrying a 5.23 September ERA, leading into play Tuesday.

So, the Dodgers will give the 23-year-old right-hander a chance to boost their relief corps as they figure out their playoff roster in the coming week.
