The first-place Philadelphia Phillies are going to have to maintain their division lead without the left side of their infield.
Star shortstop Trea Turner and third baseman Alec Bohm have both been placed on the 10-day injured list, The Athletic’s Matt Gelb reported Monday.
Turner is reportedly dealing with a Grade 1 hamstring strain suffered during the Phillies’ 5-4 loss to the Marlins on Sunday. He exited the contest after legging out a grounder in the seventh.
Bohm has a cyst in his shoulder and should be able to return after the minimum 10 days, according to Gelb.
The injuries mark the latest hit to a Phillies squad that also lost ace pitcher Zach Wheeler to season-ending elbow surgery in August. Bryce Harper will occupy Turner’s usual spot hitting leadoff in Monday’s game against the New York Mets, according to Gelb.
The NL East-leading Phillies are set to take on the second-place Mets for a four-game home series beginning Monday. New York trails Philadelphia by seven games.
Turner, 32, has 15 home runs, 69 RBIs, 36 stolen bases and an .815 OPS in 140 games this season. His .305 average and 179 hits both lead the National League.
Bohm, after a strong 2024, has regressed this season, hitting for a .272 average and .703 OPS with nine home runs and 51 RBIs.
The Phillies recalled utilityman Otto Kemp and infielder Donovan Walton to take their open roster spots.
Edmundo Sosa is a candidate to take reps at shortstop in Turner’s absence, while Kemp may fill in for Bohm at third.
