Talk about an expensive hat.

San Francisco 49ers pass-rusher Nick Bosa has been fined $11,255 for violating the league’s uniform and equipment rules by wearing a hat with a personal message, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Saturday.

The incident occurred following San Francisco’s 30-24 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night in Week 8.

Bosa interrupted NBC’s post-game interview with quarterback Brock Purdy and pointed toward his hat, which said “Make America Great Again” on it, a slogan popularized by U.S.A. President-elect Donald Trump.

He was asked about the choice to wear the hat on Wednesday and the potential fine that might come with it.

“I don’t know, I haven’t gotten one yet, but if it comes, it comes,” Bosa said on the possibility of being fined by the league. “It was well worth it.”

The NFL’s rulebook states that “throughout the period on game-day that a player is visible to the stadium and television audience (including in pregame warm-ups, in the bench area, and during postgame interviews in the locker room or on the field), players are prohibited from wearing, displaying, or otherwise conveying personal messages either in writing or illustration, unless such message has been approved in advance by the League office.”

The 27-year-old agreed to a five-year, $170 million contract extension in September 2023. He has 4.5 sacks in eight games this season.
