Boston Red Sox fans will be holding their breath and hoping for the best for their first baseman.
Triston Casas left Friday’s game against the Minnesota Twins on a cart after suffering an apparent injury on a run to first base.
The incident occurred in the bottom of the second inning after Casas hit a soft chopper down the first-base line. He appeared to step awkwardly on the bag and promptly fell to the field, grabbing at his left knee.
He stayed down for some time after the play and Red Sox medical staff had to attend to him, eventually carting him off on a stretcher.
Casas missed a majority of the 2024 season with a rib injury, forcing him to suit up for only 63 games. In that time, he had .241/.337/.462 batting splits with 13 home runs and 32 RBIs.
So far this season, the 25-year-old hasn’t been able to find a rhythm. He is batting .184 on the year with three home runs in 29 games.
The Miami, Fla. native had a strong rookie campaign in 2023, batting .263 with 24 home runs and 65 RBIs.
