“I’m going to marry that girl.” This was Hunter Woodhall’s first instinct when Tara Davis decided that she just wanted to hug him as soon as she stepped on the track. At that very moment, a fairytale started that took the world by storm. From their dating for the first time in 2017 to their eventual marriage in 2022 to that glory moment at the 2024 Olympics. But the road to the ring was not so easy and the Paralympic champion took his time to look back on this journey once again.
The Rio Paralympics silver medalist got nostalgic in his Instagram story today, saying, “Crazy how far we’ve come, @ taarra. He went back to the post made on June 20, 2023, which looked at how far they had come then, citing, “We always dreamed of the day we could stop scraping pennies together to see each other at college and travel the world like big-time athletes.” Early in their dating life, the couple was in a long-distance relationship, studying at different colleges.
Cut to 2024 and not only married but Olympians as well. Makes you wonder, do they even feel it? Hunter answers that, “Things happen so quickly and sometimes you’re so busy thinking about the future you don’t realize you’re where you used to dream of being.” Tara has been standing with Davis through thick or thin, be it rushing for his appendix surgery or to congratulate him on his new American record in 2024 in the men’s T62 400-meter race. Perhaps that’s why she’s been a dream to her husband.
The Rio Bronze Medalist continued, “All that to say, I’m so thankful for you and everything we’ve been able to do together. You haven’t just made a dream come true; you are the dream, @_taarra_.” Be it the iconic couple moment the two of them shared after Tara’s golden jump at the 2024 Summer Olympics or their relationship outside of track, which they share on YouTube.
All of this has come from years of hard work toward each other and not letting go. And journeys inspire, right? Tara already has an athletic meet running after her name in her high school, Agoura High School. Hunter, with both his legs amputated, has told the world that nothing is impossible, and he will carry this message forward when the couple delivers a lecture in North Carolina.
Tara and Hunter at Fayetteville
The Woodhalls have been invited to the Fayetteville Town Center this month. What for you, ask? To inspire. Hunter Woodhall was just 1 month short of completing a year of his birth when both of his legs were amputated because of his fibular hemimelia. In February 2024, he celebrated his 24th year of birth not as a guy with no legs but as a three-time Paralympic medalist. Tara has struggled with her mental health, juggling college and elite competition, yet today, she is an Olympic gold medalist.
The journey of both the husband and wife has been nothing short of inspiring and that is what they would be sharing at Fayetteville when The Distinguished Lectures Committee and the University of Arkansas’s Associated Student Government will welcome gold medalists on March 19th. Interestingly, the Utah Native was a Razorback back in the day, and now he, along with his wife, will be penned down as of the lectures at the Distinguished Lectures Committee.
The Committee is widely popular, bringing influential speakers to campus, including Bob Goff, Angela Davis, Aly Raisman, Gloria Steinem, Tan France, Jennette McCurdy, Venus Williams, Tyler James Williams, and, most recently, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson. Hunter and Tara will be the next names on this list, which kind of takes you back to what Hunter Woodhall said in his post: “Prayed for opportunities to see new countries and have new experiences with each other.” How well the prayers were answered, don’t you think?
