The definition of overcoming adversity! Stayed focused and got the job done! Super proud of you, big sis.” That was Quincy Wilson’s message after Masai Russell stunned the world last year. Russell, who had struggled to win any NCAA, SEC, or national titles, turned her performance upside down in her rookie season, when she ran 12.25 at the Olympic Trials, the fifth-fastest 100m hurdles time ever. And she didn’t stop at that! Rather, Russell went on to become an Olympic Champion. She carried that fire to Paris, where she struck Olympic gold in 12.33 seconds. Later, at Athlos, she closed her season with a 12.44, finishing third, but called it her “catch-up” moment. “Rookie season was a dream,” she reflected, calling it just the beginning. Now, in 2025, Masai Russell did something as jaw-dropping. And yes, Quincy Wilson’s watching it.

On May 2, Masai Russell did it again, 12.17 seconds in the 100m hurdles at Grand Slam Track Miami! Not just a win… but a world lead and an American record. She blasted out of the blocks and never looked back! Tia Jones finished second, and Ackera Nugent finished third.

And guess who was watching? Yup, Quincy Wilson didn’t miss a beat. He added a story on Instagram with the caption, “12.1! I’m beyond proud ❤! You did say you were locked earlier today😂 @masai_russell.”

The story is developing….
