Anyone who has seen the recent season knows that Quincy Wilson isn’t having the best season. With him being slapped with the next big thing in track and field moniker, it was bound that Wilson would get some of the brunt that comes with the title. But the youngster from Bullis continued his phenomenal form without thinking much about what the world had to say. From breaking records to simply seizing opportunities, he was doing it all. But with a dip in form and a string of defeats to his name, fans and experts have both been left confused. And with his recent defeat coming most unexpectedly, a track and field icon was left quite surprised.

Wilson recently took part in the Puma East Coast International Showcase in Landover, Maryland. With the 17-year-old registering for the 400m, Wilson was the favorite. Despite having the likes of Andrew Salvodon in the ranks, Wilson was given the nod. Shockingly, as the race came to an end, it was neither Salvodon nor Wilson who won. Taking the W was Jayden Horton-Mims.

He dropped a 45.24s timing to whizz past Wilson. While the Olympian has previously toppled Horton-Mims in races, US sprinter Noah Williams was left stunned. Speaking in a recent episode of Track World News, Williams shed light on what could have gone wrong for Wilson. While dissecting the race, Williams stated Wilson looked a little strained. Now, while he was not sure whether it was due to injury, Williams was sure Wilson was a bit tight.

“We know Quincy has a bit of a wild form but that was a bit of a strain from him that I saw at that time so it could have just been you know he wasn’t expecting to be tied up that late in a race; he might have thought he had more space to separate or something like that the race didn’t go the way he had planned it so he might have tightened up,” said Williams. He also went on to say that one more reason that might be causing Wilson to suffer these shock losses is due to his frequent runs.

Williams continued to say that Wilson might have been running a lot of races. Going in with the speculations, Williams looked quite skeptical. While he was not sure about race fatigue kicking in, Wilson, Williams did not throw the possibility out the window as well. Meanwhile, as Wilson looks to bounce back soon, he recently helped his team to a record-breaking race.

Quincy Wilson storms from fifth to history with record-breaking anchor leg

When Quincy Wilson took the baton for Bullis School in the anchor leg of the 4x400m relay at the 2025 Penn Relays, they were in fifth place. What happened next was not just a comeback—it was a rewrite of history. In just 43.99 seconds, Wilson tore down the track, overtaking competitors one by one, and carried his team into the record books with a new national high school mark of 3:06.31. And with that, a 40-year-old record set in 1985 was shattered!

There was no drama in his body language—only drive. As Kingston College crossed first in 3:05.93, Quincy chased them down with relentless intent, anchoring a Bullis squad that refused to be defined by the early stages of the race. “I was locked in. I just knew I had to go,” Wilson said post-race. His calm demeanor indeed belied the magnitude of what he had just achieved.

His final leg was the fastest of any runner in the event, a testament to both his talent and trust in his team. The moment wasn’t just about the time on the clock. It was about how Wilson responded when everything seemed out of reach. His performance didn’t just secure second place—it delivered history, forged under pressure, and finished with fury.
