Lucasfilm has officially announced a September 2nd premiere date for its “Star Wars” film “The Mandalorian and Grogu” on the Disney+ service. The film grossed only $345 million worldwide in theaters this summer on a budget of $165 million, making it the lowest grossing live-action ‘Star Wars’ movie. [Source: X]

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe
HBO Max has renewed its recently launched “The Big Bang Theory” spin-off “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” for a second season. The pickup comes after just four episodes of the show have aired.

Channing Dungey, Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group and WBD U.S. Networks, said in a statement: “It’s been an absolute joy to see audiences embrace this next iteration so passionately, and we can’t wait to continue exploring the multiverse in Season 2.” [Source: TV Line]

Martha
Hot off “Marty Supreme,” filmmaker Josh Safdie is teaming with comedian-actor Ramy Youssef on a new feature project currently titled “Martha” at A24. World of Reel broke the news, indicating Youssef will direct the project with Safdie joining as a co-writer and producer. Filming is slated to begin this October in New York, but plot specifics and further casting are all under wraps.

Princess Diaries 3
Julie Andrews has confirmed that she will not appear in the third “Princess Diaries” movie. The third film will see Anne Hathaway reprise her role as Mia Thermopolis, Queen of Genovia with Adele Lim (“Crazy Rich Asians”) set to direct. Andrews tells THR:

“I think the absolute truth is that I think I’m really past all that now. I’m not completely retired, but it’s a different kind of work that I do these days — [writing] books, and I do a lot of recording of podcasts and voiceovers. But truly, I don’t think I should be a part of it. It isn’t that I’m not enthusiastic for it. It’s just that I really don’t feel I should be part of it now.”

Tower Defense
Paramount Primal has picked up original medieval fantasy script “Tower Defense” by Evan Daugherty (“Snow White and the Huntsman,” “Tomb Raider”). No filmmaker or producers are attached.

The project is said to be a medieval and supernatural fantasy twist on John Carpenter’s “Assault on Precinct 13” which itself was inspired by “Rio Bravo”. [Source: THR]
