PS4 system software update

Sony recently rolled out PS4 system software update 13.00, and while it appeared to be a typical anti-piracy security update, PS4 Pro owners are reporting a significantly improved user experience.

Has PS4 update 13.00 really improved the console’s UI?

“We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens,” reads the official notice on PlayStation’s website regarding the September 17 PS4 firmware version. Sony uses this standard wording for nearly every other PS4 update now, so the modding community’s initial reaction is to advise players not to update, should they wish to jailbreak their consoles.

But modding is still a relatively niche activity, and most players do end up updating their firmware. Since system software update 13.00, we’ve noticed quite a few comments specifically from PS4 Pro owners, who claim that their consoles are running more smoothly than they were before the update.

“The console is very optimal in everything; without lag or anything else,” a player wrote on Reddit. A fellow player agreed. “This is the most optimized, stable, and fast state the UI has ever been,” they wrote.

“At first I thought I was hallucinating, but I felt the same thing,” another player added.

We’re not sure if this is a placebo effect, but it’s worth noting that we usually don’t come across observations like these when it comes to PS4 firmware revisions. And since we’ve spotted quite a few comments such as the ones above, we recommend that PS4 Pro owners update their consoles, if they haven’t already.
