Protesters made their way into Trump Tower in New York City shortly before noon on Thursday.

Footage from within the building reveals that the protesters gathered in the public area and started chanting “Free Mahmoud,” referring to pro-Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil from Columbia University, who was taken into custody by ICE over the weekend.

New York Police Department officers were present at the scene.

Footage from Chopper 2 showed several protesters wearing red t-shirts exiting Trump Tower and assembling at the corner of 59th Street and Fifth Avenue. Some individuals were reportedly taken into police custody.

As of now, the NYPD has not confirmed any arrests.

According to protest organizers, Jewish Voice for Peace, hundreds participated in the demonstration, donning shirts that read “Not in Our Name” as part of the sit-in. They also brought banners into the lobby. Notably, actress Debra Winger was among those protesting.

Who is Mahmoud Khalil?

Khalil is a pro-Palestinian activist involved in demonstrations at Columbia University, where he was pursuing graduate studies. His arrest by ICE agents in New York City on Saturday, along with his subsequent transfer to detention in Louisiana pending deportation hearings, has ignited a prominent legal battle and protests.
