Prey & Predator: Badlands Director Next Disney Movie Reboot Isn’t What Anyone Expected

Disney is reportedly developing a new movie inspired by a popular fairy tale. The director of Prey and Predator: Badlands is set to helm the upcoming reboot of the beloved Disney classic.

According to Deadline, Dan Trachtenberg is set to direct an original movie based on Sleeping Beauty. The untitled project is reportedly in early development and is set to take the story in an entirely new direction.

The new Sleeping Beauty movie is taking the classic tale in a fresh direction

Disney’s new Sleeping Beauty movie is said to reimagine the popular fairy tale, weaving a whole new story in line with Trachtenberg’s creative vision. However, plot details of the upcoming project remain under wraps for now.

Trachtenberg reportedly came up with the story alongside Rayna McClendon. Meanwhile, Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf are penning the script. No cast details have been revealed yet.

Insiders tell Deadline that the movie will not be connected to the Maleficent film series starring Angelina Jolie, another spin-off of the Sleeping Beauty tale.

In addition to helming the new Sleeping Beauty film, Trachtenberg is also serving as a producer alongside longtime producing partner Ben Rosenblatt and Star Wars producer Michelle Rejwan. Meanwhile, Jessica Virtue from EVP Production is overseeing the project with Creative Executive Alina Mota under Disney Live Action president Daria Cercek.

Dan Trachtenberg has previously directed and provided the story for three films in the Predator franchise. They include Prey (2022), Predator: Killer of Killers (2025), and Predator: Badlands (2025).

All three movies have received widespread critical acclaim, with special praise for Trachtenberg’s direction. Prey (2022) earned the filmmaker two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Directing and Writing for Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

His credits also include the 2016 science fiction thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane and episodes of The Lost Symbol, The Boys, Black Mirror, and BlackBoxTV Presents.
