Playstation stars shutting down

Sony has announced that it’s shutting down a poorly implemented PlayStation program after gutting it and rendering it useless earlier this year. Yes, we’re talking about PlayStation Stars, the loyalty program that we all briefly enjoyed when Sony was generous enough to allow PS Plus subscriptions to earn points, with no expiry date on hard-earned coin.

PlayStation Stars shutting down after being reduced to a digital collectibles service

In a note on PS Blog, Sony said that it’s no longer accepting new PS Stars members as of today and those who cancel their membership will not be able to rejoin.

Existing members have until July 23 to level up, and earn digital collectibles and points. After this date, there won’t be anything new to unlock or earn, and no new campaigns.

Players who have racked up points have between July 23 and November 2, 2026 to spend their points. Just make sure to check the expiry date.

The good news is that members will still be able to stare at their digital collectibles after PlayStation Stars fully shuts down in November 2026.

“As we explore new ways to evolve our loyalty program efforts for the future, we’ll continue to celebrate all of our players through the various community activities we have planned,” Sony wrote.

Please be excited.
