Things took an ugly turn at PNC Park on Sunday night. After what should’ve been just another routine end to a ballgame between the Pirates and the Cardinals, tensions flared—not on the field, but in the stands.
Reportedly, a physical altercation broke out between a Pirates employee and a fan, catching many by surprise. Now, the situation is getting further attention with the Pirates organization stepping in and taking official action, raising even more questions about what went down after the final pitch.
According to sources from KDKA, the incident started when two Pirates fans began harassing a woman working at one of the food stands inside the stadium. Yeah, nothing decent speaks there! Following that, a Pirates employee stepped in to defend the said woman, but then, despite trying to diffuse the matter, he became the target. The fan reportedly spat on him and hurled insults until the employee snapped.
By now, you might have guessed what followed.
A flurry of punches and shouting drew the attention of nearby fans. The chaos only came to a halt when bystanders stepped in and local police arrived on the scene.
“We are aware of the unfortunate incident that occurred following the conclusion of yesterday’s game between a PNC Park game day employee and a guest. The employee’s behavior was entirely unacceptable, and he was immediately suspended. This incident is currently under further investigation,” read the official statement of the Pirates.
So, in the aftermath, the Pirates organization made its move. As per reports, the employee involved in the altercation has been suspended while the team reviews security footage to piece together exactly what happened. The club has also emphasized that they’re taking the incident seriously and working to determine all the facts before making any further decisions.
But what about the unruly fans there?
