Kokkalis Addresses Pi Network’s Focus on Decentralization

At the 2025 Consensus conference in Toronto, Pi Network founder Nicholas Kokkalis was asked about the growing popularity of Pi and whether the Pi community, often referred to as the “Pi Army,” is more vocal about decentralization or Pi itself.

Kokkalis responded by acknowledging the complexity of decentralization and the challenges that come with it. “When thinking of decentralization and AI, there is a technical side—embedding technology, handling training, and distributing rewards. But there’s also the concept of value capture,” he explained.

The Future of Value Capture in a Decentralized World

Kokkalis emphasized the importance of ensuring that value in a future driven by AI and agents isn’t concentrated in the hands of a few. “In a world where AI and agents perform more tasks, it’s crucial that value is distributed widely, not just captured by a few individuals or companies,” he stated.

This, according to Kokkalis, is where blockchain technology can play a critical role. He stressed that blockchain allows for decentralized value capture, providing opportunities for more people to benefit from technological advancements. Kokkalis also pointed out that the founders of blockchain projects, like Pi Network, need to consider how blockchain can be used to help capture and distribute this value fairly.
