MLB has always had a knack for captivating fans. It may be through nail-biting finishes, breakout stars, or pure, unfiltered drama. But this season, the league has kicked things up a notch. The on-field product continues to deliver, showcasing a compelling blend of talent, tension, and unpredictability. Yet, what’s happening off the diamond is truly turning heads. Consider the Rockies here!

Well, from unexpected storylines to bizarre episodes, 2025 is shaping up to be one of the most unforgettable seasons in recent memory. And at the heart of many of these eyebrow-raising moments? The Colorado Rockies, a team whose struggles between the lines have done little to keep them out of the spotlight everywhere else.

A new bizarre incident came into light on Wednesday when the Rockies expectedly fell short against the Phillies by a 9-5 margin. Something that felt straight out of a sitcom rather than a professional ballpark.

So, Phillies outfielder Johan Rojas found himself in an unlikely standoff with Coors Field security. On Thursday morning, Rojas had stepped into the stands to make a quick phone call. But when he tried to return to the field, security stopped him cold.

Yes, you heard that right. They didn’t recognize him. They didn’t believe he was a player! And it took ace Zack Wheeler personally vouching for his teammate to resolve the situation. Now this is something uncalled for. Hilarious to hear, but might be insulting for the player.

Well, athletes, especially those out of uniform, have long found themselves mistaken for fans or outsiders. Here, factor in that Rojas is a visiting player and one of nearly a thousand faces in MLB. So, you can understand how a guard might fail to put a name to a face. But it surely left Rojas a bit embarrassed.

Considering how Rojas is performing, it’s a bit ironic. He was one of the Phillies’ hottest bats to open the 2025 campaign. For starters, through his first 27 games, the 24-year-old outfielder slashed a home run, 11 RBIs, six walks, and five stolen bases over 70 at-bats. But since that impressive start, the momentum has stalled.

In his last seven games, Rojas has managed just one hit and a pair of walks in 15 at-bats. So, maybe, just maybe, that recent cold spell contributed to his mistaken identity. After all, it’s easier to go unrecognized when you’re not lighting up the box score.

Well, the Rockies are no different, continuing their downhill journey.

Nothing is going right for the Rockies this year

8-42! Yes, that’s the current record of the Rockies, standing last in the NL West. It seems like they are behind the White Sox’s last year’s record of most losses in a season.

With Thursday’s 2-0 home loss to the Phillies, the Rockies didn’t just drop another game; they made history. Unfortunately, it’s the kind that you, as a Rockies fan, would not love to claim. The defeat marked the worst 50-game start in modern MLB history. That dubious distinction breaks the previous low set by the 2023 Athletics, who opened 10-40.

To find a team with fewer wins through 50 games, you’d have to rewind the clock to the 19th century. Guess the 1895 Louisville Colonels, who managed just seven wins in their first 50 contests!

The Rockies’ struggles are magnified even further when compared to their NL West rivals. They currently sit 23 games behind the first-place Dodgers, and based on their current trajectory, they’re on pace to finish a jaw-dropping 74 games out of first. So, yes, nothing hopeful anymore for the Rockies fans this season.

A strong rebuild is needed next year, but considering the meagre payroll, that also now seems far-fetched.
