Paul Scholes has predicted that Alejandro Garnacho will shine at Chelsea after his move from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

The Blues have paid £40m to sign the Argentina international winger with the 21-year-old signing a long-term contract that runs through to 2032.

Garnacho made a total of 144 appearances for United across all competitions, registering 26 goals and 22 assists for the Red Devils.

Some football fans and pundits have raised concerns over Garnacho’s attitude and others have argued Chelsea didn’t need another winger.

But United legend Scholes is adamant that Garnacho will do well at Stamford Bridge as he shared his thoughts on The Overlap Fan Debate.

‘Chelsea are almost the best of the rest under the top two or three (teams) and they needed investment in the right areas,’ Scholes said.

‘I think he (Alejandro Garnacho) will be good for you,’ Scholes then told Rory Jennings, a Chelsea supporter and football influencer known for his work on YouTube and talkSPORT.

Jennings seemed surprised by the prediction and asked the former midfielder to clarify if he felt Garnacho ‘would be a good signing’ for Chelsea with Scholes nodding his head in agreement.

Jennings expressed concern over Garnacho’s attitude before another supporter on The Overlap Fan Debate shouted out: ‘He’s a k**b!’

Scholes then added: ‘There’s a lot of k**bs now – it doesn’t mean they’re not going to be good at football.

‘I don’t think he will be disruptive (in the Chelsea squad). I hope he is! But I don’t think he will.’

Garnacho was deemed surplus to requirements by United head coach Ruben Amorim following a series of disciplinary breeches.

In February, Amorim revealed Garnacho was due to take his team-mates out for dinner by way of apology for his reaction to being substituted in Manchester United’s win against Ipswich Town.

After last season’s Europa League final defeat, Garnacho’s brother Robert declared that the player had been ‘thrown under the bus’ by Amorim.

In June, Garnacho posted a photo of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt with ‘Rashford’ on the back, an undisguised endorsement of Marcus Rashford’s decision to leave United, drawing an angry backlash from fans.

Garnacho has a job on his hands to break into the Chelsea XI with the squad already packed with a number of exciting attacking players.

He became Chelsea’s ninth signing of the summer window and fifth attacking addition after Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Estevao Willian and Jamie Gittens.

Speaking to the Chelsea website after his move was announced on Saturday, Garnacho said: ‘It’s an incredible moment for my family and I to join this great club.

‘I can’t wait to get started. I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special – we’re the best team in the world!’
