Disgraced ex-pop star Gary Glitter’s ‘body is giving up’ in prison, according to new reports.

The convicted paedophile, 81 – real name Paul Gadd – rose to nationwide fame in the 70s and 80s for his energetic glam rock persona.

Then, he was convicted of downloading child pornography images and jailed for four months in 1999.

Later, he was deported from Cambodia over child abuse allegations and in 2006 was imprisoned for a further two-and-a-half years for sexually abusing two young girls, aged 10 and 11 at the time.

Ultimately, in 2015, Glitter was jailed for 16 years after he was convicted of the sexual assault of three schoolgirls between the years 1975 and 1980, with his sentence lasting until 2031.

After his parole bid was denied in 2024, he is currently being held behind bars at HMP Channings Wood in Devon in a Vulnerable Prisoner Unit (VPU).

Last year, it was confirmed he had gone bankrupt after failing to pay just over £500,000 in damages to one of his victims.

Now, a new insider has revealed that the serial sex offender is quickly deteriorating after being holed up in his cell for up to 23 hours a day.

The source for The Sun revealed: ‘He is deaf and can barely move – and most people would struggle to recognise him now.

‘He seems to be on his last legs, with his body giving up.  And if he doesn’t get parole soon, most officers and inmates think he will see out his days in jail.

‘He often moves around in a wheelchair, and staff are told about his hearing impairment and reduced mobility.’

With his case back in court recently, this is also reportedly ‘weighing on him’ and he is ‘ deeply troubled by what is going on’.

‘Disliked by other inmates’, he is kept in VPU for his own safety, where he spends ’23 hours a day in his cell’.

Gadd was automatically released in February 2023 but was recalled back to jail when officials checked his phone and found he had breached his licence conditions by reportedly trying to access the dark web and viewing downloaded images of children.

Beyond his music, Gadd regularly appeared on TV shows, including ones involving children, such as ITV series Tiswas.

In a 2024 ITV documentary titled Glitter: The Popstar Paedophile, presenter Sally James spoke about her disturbing reflections on his appearance.

‘He was just really enjoying the moment. And I don’t think anyone would have thought weird about any of the guests and the children. It just wouldn’t have crossed our mind,’ she said.

Then added: ‘If I think back now, no wonder Gary Glitter was always polite and nice to me, because that gives him access to more children, more whatever it is that he was trying to gain access to, which makes it even more sickening when you think back.’
