At 38 years old with an unblemished 23-0 record, the unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has earned the right to walk away from the sport if he wants to. But retirement isn’t in his plans just yet. Whether it’s his love for boxing or unfinished business, Oleksandr Usyk is stepping back into the ring against Daniel Dubois just seven months after his dominant, unanimous decision win over Tyson Fury in their rematch.

Meanwhile, Daniel Dubois is laser-focused on redemption. After suffering a ninth-round TKO loss to the Ukrainian boxer back in August 2023, the British heavyweight is hungrier than ever. Speaking to The Guardian, Dubois made it clear. “This is the fight I wanted and demanded.” Confident and intense, he added, “I am a superior and more dangerous fighter now.” July 19 is circled. He wants revenge—and he means it.

Anyway, a day after their rematch was confirmed, the pair posed for pictures on the turf at Wembley when Daniel Dubois animatedly shoved the 38-year-old heavyweight champion. Tensions flared instantly with Usyk stepping in, but security jumped in just in time to prevent things from spiraling out of control. Ultimately, the moment went viral, sparking intense debate among fans. But that’s not all.

As the rematch for the undisputed title inches closer, the IBF heavyweight champion isn’t the only one bringing the fire. His coach, Don Charles, has also been turning up the temperature. After the fight was announced, Charles reignited controversy by accusing Oleksandr Usyk of cheating in their first fight. Speaking to Radio Rahim, Charles was asked if those bold claims could backfire. But the veteran coach didn’t flinch. “He knows that he cheated on that night,” Charles said, firmly standing by his accusation.

According to Charles, the referee’s inconsistent calls played a huge role in what went down. He alleged that Oleksandr Usyk spent the early rounds repeatedly motioning to low blows even when the punches were clean. This, he claimed, was a tactic to condition referee Luis Pabon into eventually ruling a legitimate body shot as a low blow, giving the Ukrainian almost 4 minutes to recover. “No, we’re telling the truth,” Charles insisted, adding that even Usyk’s own conscience must be weighing on him.

In a recent interview, Oleksandr Usyk acknowledged that Daniel Dubois has shown clear improvement since their last encounter two years ago. Speaking to BBC Sport, Usyk said, “I think he has. Daniel wins the IBF belt. Has beaten three good fighters. He is a world champion, a hard man, a dangerous man.”

However, when asked if Dubois had changed mentally, Usyk was blunt. “Mentally no, push is a weakness,” the 23-0 boxer stated plainly. Anyway, the moment Daniel Dubois shoved Oleksandr Usyk sparked a flurry of reactions online, with fans around the world still weighing in on the ruckus at Wembley.

Genuine bad blood, or is it just Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois selling the fight?

Seeing both fighters pull off unexpected stunts, despite not having any real personal rivalry, had fans scratching their heads. One user joked, “That’s the worst acting I have ever seen 😂,” while another added, “I don’t know why he did that it’s so random there isn’t any real beef between them 😂.” While fans continue to question why Daniel Dubois shoved Oleksandr Usyk, it turns out the Dynamite already has an answer. Explaining his actions, Dubois responded, “It’s a new me, the fear of acting in a particular way is not there any more.” Perhaps it’s the fact that after his loss to Usyk in 2023, Dubois bounced back with three consecutive knockout victories, boosting his confidence in his own skills.

The moment Daniel Dubois lightly pushed Oleksandr Usyk didn’t exactly scream animosity, with one fan commenting, “That’s was a very weird and gentle push 😂.” Take a recent example. When Chris Eubank Jr. smoothly pulled off the egg stunt and slapped it onto Conor Benn’s face with precision and confidence, that was showmanship and real anger. In comparison, whatever Daniel Dubois attempted felt clumsy, reluctant, and half-hearted. It lacked flair, timing, and any real conviction. That’s probably why one fan joked, “He’d blatantly been told to do it but didn’t want to😂 bless him.”

Another fan wasn’t buying it at all. “Staged,” the comment read. You see, unlike many fighters, Daniel Dubois has largely stayed out of controversy throughout his career. Since turning pro in 2017, he’s been known for his consistent victories, rarely engaging in pre-fight theatrics. So, when fans saw him push Usyk, it didn’t quite fit the image they had of him.

And when the Greenwich native shoved the Ukrainian boxer, a perfectly timed duck sound effect in the background had fans howling. “One of them farted loud 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂,” a user joked.

Still, another user summed up the sentiment best. “Daniel no need to sell the fight!! we all gonna watch🤣🤣🤣.” For what it’s worth, Daniel Dubois’ only career losses have come against Joe Joyce in 2020 and Oleksandr Usyk in 2023. At 27, he’s gained more experience, added muscle, and sharpened his tools. Oleksandr Usyk, meanwhile, remains undefeated and arguably at his peak—but nothing lasts forever, especially when you are closing forty.

So here’s the question: Can Daniel Dubois pull off the upset and avenge his loss, or will Oleksandr Usyk once again prove why he’s one of the sport’s elite?
