Robert Redford wasn’t just one of the greatest actors of his time, but a movie star of such magnitude that it was a challenge to find co-stars who could go toe-to-toe with him. Redford famously shared the screen with Paul Newman in the classic adventure films Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting, but it was with Jane Fonda that he was at his most vulnerable, funny, and tender-hearted. In 2017, Redford and Fonda reunited for the Netflix romantic drama Our Souls at Night, which marked their first onscreen appearance together in almost four decades. Despite debuting directly to Netflix, Our Souls at Night felt like the type of tender, old-fashioned romantic drama that could have just as easily been made in the Golden Age of Hollywood.
